Todd began his golf career in 1981. After working as a club professional for 15 years, He decided to completely turn his attention to teaching golf, opening Impact Golf in 1998. The Impact Golf School is ranked the 4th best golf school in the country by Golf Magazine, while also being ranked the 1st best school in the Midwest. Scott McCarron, Robert Gamez, Shaun Micheel, Jay Williamson, Steve Jones, Paul Goydos, Stephanie Louden, and Hillary Lunke are among the PGA/LPGA professionals who have worked with Todd. Todd has been voted one of the Top 100 Golf Instructors in America by Golf Magazine since 1995, as well as one of the 50 Greatest Teachers in America by Golf Digest. He has twice been named Teacher of the Year in the Illinois PGA. Todd has published over 70 articles in major publications, such as Golf Digest and Golf Magazine. Todd has also published two successful books; “Lights Out Putting” and “Saving Par”.

The philosophy at Impact Golf is to teach people individually, evaluating each player’s natural swing, along with their physical ability, in order to come up with a swing that is individually suited to them. At Impact Golf, there is not a belief that there is one way to swing a golf club that is correct for all people. However, Todd’s belief is there is a way for each player to swing that is best for them.

The hallmark at Impact Golf is “The Scoring Zone”, which is a system of teaching the short game. 40% of a player’s score is on the putting green, 25% is from the edge of the green to 50 yards out, leaving the remaining 35% from 50 yards to the edge of the green. Our approach at Impact Golf is to teach player all parts of the game so that they maximize their scoring potential when they are on the course.

The Scoring Zone breaks into six shots. Putting, bump and run (within 5 yards of the green from a good lie), hinge and hold (within 5 yards of the green from a bad lie), toss shots (different trajectory shots from 5 yards to 25 yards), mini-wedge play (25 yards to approximately 70 yards) and bunker play.

After developing the “Scoring Zone”, Todd found a real problem in the industry in his efforts to help people score better. Approximately, 80% of the players attending his short game school were putting with ill-fitted putters bought off the shelf not allowing them to substantially improve their putting. In 2003, Todd invented and patented the “Tri-Fit” method of fitting putters, which led to the development of Coutour Golf. Coutour Golf is a custom fit putter company where players are fit to putters based on a proper set-up, allowing them to develop solid and repeatable putting strokes.
